Despite the growing necessity for firms across the UK to return to ‘normal’, there is still a need to ensure that staff and customers are protected from exposure to COVID-19, however, current methods of cleaning and sanitizing are posing challenges for industries that typically deal with a high turn-around of users such as hospitality or where downtime causes significant disruption, such as in a manufacturing environment. Peterborough-based Codem Composites took to finding a solution to this growing problem and has now launched a fully portable disinfection solution, proven to kill COVID-19.
UVC (Ultraviolet-C) was the obvious starting point as the light-wave has long been known for its ability to kill viruses and bacteria and this brought Codem to work with global lighting expert AED, to take its range of Luxibel UVC disinfection products and develop a fully portable, battery operated solution.
The EosTower system provides a quick and efficient way of disinfecting surfaces within enclosed spaces between uses. Emitting concentrated UVC ultraviolet light across 360 degrees, it can disinfect a surface area of 15 m2 in under 15 minutes – perfect for use in meeting, hotel or treatment rooms, where a quick and effective turnaround is needed. The EosTower uses UVC lighting tubes produced by Phillips-Signify that have been proven to kill the virus that causes COVID-19 following a study by Boston University.
UVC light works as a disinfectant as it damages the virus or bacterial DNA preventing it from replicating and effectively killing or inactivating it. However, this also means that UVC light is hazardous to humans and animals if exposed, therefore the EosTower comes with multiple safety features to prevent accidental exposure: including a key operated armed remote switch, an audible alarm when in operation, along with PIR sensors that automatically switch off the lights if any motion is detected.
The portable design comes complete with rechargeable battery pack, meaning the EosTower can be used in almost any situation and quickly and effectively moved from room to room and can last for 2.5 hours in full operation between charges.
